BMW Having Second Thoughts on ‘i’ Sub-Brand

Despite the fact that they are going on tour around the world, showcasing their green offerings, the concept versions of the i3 and i8, BMW are apparently reconsidering making these vehicles altogether, citing a lack of demand and interest from the public and governments as the main reasons.
But, isn’t this exactly what happened when GM eradicated the excellent EV1 from the face of the earth? They also said that lack of demand was the main reason for discontinuing the EV1, despite the evidence which clearly showed that it wasn’t the case. So, don’t necessarily believe the reason they say as being the real one, as it may very well not be real. BMW were planning on selling cars from the ‘i’ sub-brand by the thousands, with the i3 arriving first, in 2013, and the sporty i8 arriving one year later than that. Now, they seem to have changed their mind on the matter, claiming that the underdeveloped charging infrastructure, lack of governmental benefits for ‘green’ drivers in most countries and a lack of interest from the public are reasons for stopping the ‘i’ experiment, according to Automobile.

However, the GM parallel is further maintained as BMW had already started leasing the ActiveE ‘green’ 1-Series Coupe, following the GM pattern of not allowing the drivers of the cars to also be their owners. We’re not suggesting anything, but the facts are facts and cannot be argued against. To conclude this, BMW would also have to pull all the ActiveE models off the road and turn them into piles of shredded metals, like the now-defunct EV1.
