BMW Gains 12 Percent in August

German manufacturer BMW announced today its sales figures for last month, posting, as it did in the last few months, an encouraging increase compared to 2009. For BMW, the growth was of 12.5 percent, translated into 103,239 vehicles sold.

The BMW brand contributed to the growth with 88,007 units, or an increase of 16.3 percent, while MINI supported the figures by chipping in 14,986 vehicles, even if, in its case, the number represents a decrease of 6.7 percent. Rolls Royce managed to get back on its feet after the roadblock it hit last year and posted a growth of a whooping 564.9 percent, or 246 vehicles delivered.

“The August sales figures developed better than expected. We are seeing a stable upward trend and are gradually regaining the level we had prior to the economic and financial crisis,” said Ian Robertson, BMW member of the board for Sales and Marketing.

“Our BMW brand not only sold 16.3 percent more automobiles year-on-year – for the first time, it also delivered more vehicles than in August 2007 (+3.6 percent) and 2008 (+3.1 percent),” the BMW official continued.

Hopes remain high, since new models will hit the market, including the BMW 5 Series Touring, the MINI Countryman and the revised engine lineup for the MINI brand expected for the middle of September. As usual, the bulk of the growth is expected to come from the Asia Pacific region, and especially China, but from the other regions as well.

“However, as the world’s leading premium automobile manufacturer, we aim to maintain a good balance between our Europe, Asia and Americas regions,”
assures Robertson.
