For the tenth month in row, numbers have been kind with German manufacturer Mercedes Benz, showing once again that last year's struggles where just a momentary slip. Mercedes sold 86,800 units last month, 22 percent more than in the same month of 2009.
The best market in terms of percentage growth remained China, which posted more than double the volume posted last year (113.4 percent increase to 13,400 units. In terms of volume, the most Mercedes-friendly market is that of Western Europe, with 29,000 units sold (a growth of 7.7 percent).
The US posted good numbers as well (18,800 vehicles, up ten percent), while the worst performer was Japan, with only 2,200 units sold (still, this is an increase of 11.5 percent).
“The growth recorded by Mercedes-Benz in August marks a continuation of the current positive trend,” said Joachim Schmidt, executive vice president Sales and Marketing, Mercedes-Benz Cars. “We boosted sales in nearly all the regions we operate in and also posted strong growth in August in Germany, which is our biggest sales market."
The brands Mercedes-Benz sells performed as they did for the past several month. The Cars division of the carmaker posted a 18.5 percent increase to 81,000. smart remained at the back of the back, selling 5,800 vehicles, or 18.1 percent less than in the same month last year.
For the months to come, the new models to be released leave room to hope for even more improvements.
"We expect sales to continue to develop favorably in the coming months as well. Worldwide, we want sales at Mercedes-Benz to grow at a double-digit rate in full-year 2010,” added Schmidt.
