Nissan Sells Over 6,000 Elgrands in 2 Weeks

It's not clear yet whether the good sales results reported by Japanese manufacturer Nissan for its newly launched models can be justified just by the momentarily excitement consumers feel when they hear about a new model, but one thing is certain: Nissan's newcomers wreak havoc in Japan.

The new Elgrand, released only two weeks ago, is only the latest model to join all the others whose sales exceeded the carmaker's expectations. For Elgrand, the 6,386 units of the model sold by August 18 represent more than three times the monthly sales target of 1,900 units set by the manufacturer.

The vehicle comes equipped with a choice of two engines, both paired to a tweaked Xtronic CVT-M6 transmission with wide gear range and low-speed lockup function. The first unit is the 3.5l VQ35DE engine which develops 280 PS at 6,400 rpm and maximum torque of 344 Nm at 4,400 rpm.

The second is the 2.5l QR25DE powerplant which develops a maximum output of 170 PS at 5,600 rpm and a maximum torque of 245 Nm at 3,900 rpm.

The Elgrand is equipped with Intelligent Cruise Control, ABS, VDC, airbags (including SRS) and tire pressure sensor, multi-function high quality seats with leg rest, 11-inch electronic retractable monitor and a Private Theater System with a Bose 5.1 Surround Sound System.

Most of the orders for the Elgrand have been placed for the 250Highway STAR model (45 percent), with most of the customers (74 percent) going for a 2 wheel-drive version. A Phantom Black color on a 7-passenger configuration of the body is the favorite choice for Japanese buyers (44 and 74 percent, respectively).
