Since the BMW Group set an ambitious target for 2020 (2.6 million units sold per year) a lot of new models will be unveiled in the years to come and a lot of new ones have already been released. One example is the M550d xDrive.
This car has a 3-liter 6-cylinder inline diesel engine fitted with not one, not two but three turbochargers. In this configuration, the total power output reached by this oil burner is 381 HP with a matching torque level of 740 Nm (546 lb-ft).
This way, the F10 5er reaches 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.7 seconds while also keeping the fuel consumption to a respectable 37 mpg (6.4 l/100km) and the CO2 levels at 165 g/km.
Sales didn't go to well though, mainly because the people that can afford an M5 don't usually check the fuel consumption figures of the gas prices. They want performance and aren't too keen on diesels.
That's why this spotting is a rather unusual one. As rare as these cars are, seeing one right in front of you could as well be celebrated.
