The guys from Autoguide were quick on the trigger and sent one of their correspondents up to Chicago in a heartbeat when they heard that BMW was going to hold a North American debut. The car that was unveiled for the Americas for the first time at Chicago was the 740Ld xDrive model.
The new car uses a 3-liter turbocharged diesel engine and takes full advantage of BMW’s Twin Turbo system, making 258 HP and 560 Nm of torque from 1,500 RPM up to 3,000. Therefore, despite being a long wheelbase model, the 7er can do 60 mph from a standstill in just 6.1 seconds, partly due to the all-wheel-drive system.

Compared to its petrol brother, the diesel should also offer a drastically improved fuel consumption that wasn’t yet rated by the EPA but is estimated at around 27-28 mpg in a combined cycle. Prices for the new car start just over $83,000 and you’ll be able to get one starting this spring.
