US Debut: BMW 740Ld xDrive at the 2014 Chicago Auto Show

Just as promised, the BMW US people brought the new BMW 740Ld xDrive to the 2014 Chicago Auto Show, marking the car’s North American debut and entering a new day and age for BMW’s diesel expansion.

The new car arrived dressed in Sapphire Black and fitted with a plethora of optional features, including the exterior M Sport package. On the bonnet, the 740Ld moniker was shinier than ever, announcing a new day for the BMW line-up in the US.

The 7er will be using a 3-liter turbocharged diesel engine that makes 258 HP and 560 Nm (413 lb-ft) of torque and the xDrive all-wheel-drive system.

The 0-60 mph sprint is done with in just 6.1 seconds, despite the car’s near 2 tone weight, thanks to the brilliant 8-speed automatic gearbox it comes with. Fuel consumption is rated at 5.6 l/100 km (42 mpg), not that anyone buying this car would be terribly worried about the mpg rating as prices start at $83,425 (including handling).
