We still think the Focus RS is one of the coolest cars ever built, not because of the performance it offers, but because it shows the middle finger to being civilized.
This isn't exclusive to the blue one in the picture, but the other generations as well. You have violent steering in the Mk1 and a 5-cylinder turbo that sounds like a rally car on the other. This 3rd generation boasted groundbreaking technology that allowed an AWD hatchback to drift.
And don't believe what the drag races show you. The 2.3-liter turbo pulls amazingly well, and while a twin-clutch gearbox would have made it faster, the manual is... well, you know, engaging. And life is about more than just taking on AMGs at the lights.
Even though the Focus RS has retired from the limelight, people are still looking for ways to take it to the next level. And in this case, the people are Fortune Flares, who've decided to add 140mm to the width of the already ample hatchback.
Their widebody kit makes the RS look more like a rally car, and we like that since Ford probably has the biggest connection to rallying right now. Sorry, Volkswagen! In any case, the bolt-on extensions are thicker at the top, leaving just enough of a gap to see some tire. Honestly, this is like the automotive equivalent of a mini dress.
You can also have a big wing at the back, some extra hood vents and an adjustable chin spoiler. You don't have to keep your custom radiator exposed like that, but the no-grille look is admittedly pretty cool.
All ten parts that make up the kit made from FRP, but you can have them special-ordered in carbon fiber if you're a big spender. But normally, it's just $2,450 plus shipping, paint and installation obviously not being included.
