Last week we reported on a somewhat strange motorcycle-related case involving witchcraft and bees, but now we’re back with something that seems even more supernatural than that. A motorcycle rider was declared dead after an accident but regained life back at the morgue.
The incident happened in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, where, according to news24, the local health department launched an inquiry after a man was found alive in the fridge of the state mortuary. He had been declared dead just the day before after he crashed his motorcycle.

The DA in KuaZulu-Natal said the Emergency Medical Rescue Services found the man with no pulse or any vital signs at the crash scene, so they declared him dead, transported the “corpse” to the Phoenix mortuary and put it the freezer.

Funny thing, when the family arrived to identify the body the next day, the staff discovered the man had a pulse and was trying to breathe. He was immediately transported to the Mahatma Gandhi Hospital for resuscitation where medics managed to warm the man’s body and put him out of danger.

The hospital staff was commended for their efforts, as some even took extra shifts to help the man recover. Needless to say, his family had to receive counseling after such an experience.

Although the whole event sounds like a black comedy movie, people said that “the horrific event has again highlighted the extreme shortcomings within the KZN health department’s EMRS and mortuary services”.

I think the guy was lucky he wasn’t an organ donor or he could have been really dead by now. We hope he gets well and starts riding again, next time being more careful.

Not everyone gets a second chance like this so let this be a lesson for all you squids out there that only like to pin the throttle and do wheelies every time you see a traffic gap.
