With the Worthersee GTI meet coming up later this week and motorsport on everybody's minds, cool hot hatch projects are coming out of the woodwork. We've seen all sorts of custom turbos, but none of them holds a candle to this SEAT Leon Eurocup. Why? Because racecar, that's why!
Introduced lat year, right after the Leon SC 3-door came out, the Cup Racer version is making its debut in a one-make racing series during the 2014 calendar. Priced from €70,000 before VAT, this radical creation of the guys from Martorell packs a 330 horsepower version of the 2-liter engine featured in all VW Group hot hatches. For the one-make racing series, a DSG gearbox with paddles behind the wheel will be used. An endurance racer has also been developed with a better sequential racing gearbox, which raises the sticker to €95,000.

Autohaus Schneider GmbH, an Austrian dealer network, runs one of the racing Leon Cups and they wanted their car to stand out on the grid. So before the six-race season started, they went to car wrapping firm Print Tech Premium for this amazing transformation. Their color scheme features matte silver in combination with chrome blue and red pin striping.

These relatively modest racing series aren't what the Leon Cup is all about. The 40mm wider fenders on its sides are designed to comply with the FIA World Touring Car Championship, from which the Spanish brand has been conspicuously mission. However, a 1.6-liter engine will have to be added to the mix before this car can fight for the title.

Editor's note: "Because racecar" traces its origins to a 2011 post on Opposite Lock. Describing a Craigslist Mazda MX-3, a seller said the car has been modified “because race car". What came after that, well that's stuff of internet legend.

He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
