Forze IV First Hydrogen Racing Car Built by Students Unveiled

Nowadays the race towards alternative energy is becoming more and more fierce, as all the auto manufacturers are trying to find the perfect equation in matter of eco-friendly engines. An amazing breakthrough was made by a team of students from Delft University of Technology, from The Netherlands.

The students have revealed their hydrogen powered racecar called Froze IV in The Hague. Delft students will be making their first appearance in Formula Student, a worldwide competition among 500 other universities to be held this week, also the Delft Racing Team will compete in the Formula Student race in the racing car they have built.

"We are the first team in this worldwide competition to race using a hydrogen fuel cell. That's a huge technical challenge in a racing car," said team manager Wouter Krul as quoted by sciencedaily.com

The Delft hydrogen car, the Froze IV “took its first steps” on Saturday, the first who took the “green racer” to its limits was Denis Donkeroort, who delighted the public with a show full of burn-outs.

The car will be powered by a hydrogen fuel cell source, and the best part is that it will not create any pollution, as the only by product of the reaction is water. According to the students the car can reach speeds of 120km/h.

Furthermore the hydrogen car can accelerate as fast as a Porsche. The team of “young engineers” from Delft University won the previous Formula Student race in 2010 racing in a ultra-light bio-ethanol powered vehicle, so we expect the experience this year.
