autoevolution Users Think Winter Tires Should Be Mandatory

It's winter and driving is less fun for some of us but, because sometimes the car is the only means of transportation, facing the harsh winter conditions is the only viable solution. That's why we wanted to find out your opinion through our regular poll: do you think winter tires should become mandatory equipment all over the world during the cold season?

Hundreds, if not thousands, of studies demonstrated that winter tires are by far the most efficient on snow or ice, while all-season and summer tires aren't exactly
safe when dealing with such conditions. Still, opinions are divided and, while some people are shouting as loud as possible that winter tires should be mandatory by law, others are claiming that it all depends on how good driver you are and the way you manage to control your car in winter conditions.

Our very own poll has revealed that most of you think that winter tires are indeed better during the cold season, so 51 percent of our visitors voted "Yes" when asked if they should be made mandatory. Safety comes first, most of you said, while 32 percent of the voters think that all-season tires should be just fine.

A total of 15 percent of the respondents are less interested in preparing their car for winter, choosing to rather spend the money they'd have to invest in winter tires on Christmas gifts.

That being said, we'll proceed to our next question, this time regarding GM CEO Dan Akerson's joke that called the Toyota Prius, seen as a Chevy Volt rival in the United States, a "geek mobile". So, what should be his punishment for such a goof? Submit your vote in the poll on the left side of the page.
