Audi’s performance version vehicles, the RS cars, have recently had a special marketing story created for them in North America.
First, the MTM (dedicated VW Group tuner) Canadian dealer Horchaus announced that it had reached a deal with Audi AG to import certain RS models that hadn’t previously been available. This was happening back in February. Then, earlier this month Audi issued a press release, giving the U.S.. market the green light for the new RS5 coupe starting from 2012. However, Horchaus made a new announcement, letting us know that the attempt to brings the RS cars to N.A. has failed.
Now, Audi launches a new torpedo: the company has created a special website dedicated to offering an on-line petition for importing the RS version of the TT in the U.S.. This means that there is fair change for the turbocharged five-cylinder madness to be brought to America.
Audi’s special website even has a counter, so you can see how many people have expressed their desire for the car.
As a reminder, we’ll tell you that all this is being made for a special animal, which can come in a coupe or topless incarnation. On the European market, the TT RS is powered by a 2.5 liter five-cylinder powerplant that uses turbocharging and direct injection (and intercooling and some other hot stuff) to deliver 340 hp and a maximum torque of 332 lb-ft (450 Nm), available between 1,600 and 5,300 rpm.
The unit allows the vehicle to deal with the 0 to 62 mph sprint in 4.6 seconds (the Quattro AWD system also helps) and offer an electronically limited top speed of 155 mph (250 km/h).
