As it gears up for the relaunch of the e-tron line-up next month with the SUV, this time with higher hopes, German carmaker Audi announced on Monday the unveiling of its first fully electric supercar.
The concept will be shown starting August 23 during the 2018 Pebble Beach Car Week in California and will be wearing the name PB18 e-tron. The complicated designation is supposed to pay tribute to the location of the event and the year the car is making its official debut.

There are no other details available about the model at this time, other than the fact that it will be accompanied at the venue by “an extensive range of vintage cars and performance vehicles.”

The e-tron range for Audi, introduced back in 2009 as a means to put the carmaker on the path to electrification, has failed so far in presenting the world with a truly worthy green car.

The first- e-tron was shown in 2009 at the Frankfurt Auto Show, and it came as a model similar to the R8.

The first production model e-tron was the A1, first shown in 2010 in Geneva. Arriving on the market as a plug-in hybrid, it was accompanied the same year, in Paris, by the presentation of the e-tron Spyder.

Despite the rather big number of concepts presented, Audi failed to make its electric cars a hit. This August, the carmaker will take another shot at it with the introduction of the e-tron SUV, a model for which it seems to have big plans.

Taking advantage of the rise in sales for the SUV segment and the increasing appetite for electric cars, owed to carmakers like Tesla or Jaguar, Audi will be trying to take a bite of this emerging market.

As for the PB18, there is no info yet on whether it will remain a concept or move forward into production.
