Audi Invests an Additional EUR45 Million in Toolmaking

Taking a step further in showing its dedication to create top-quality vehicles, the Toolmaking Division of Audi AG opened an extension building and with it the implementation of a synchronized production system.

Audi’s Toolmaking Division is largely responsible for creating high quality panels for their vehicles’ bodies. Moreover, the new system implemented at the inaugurated toolmaking building ensures that all work steps are better coordinated for an even leaner and more efficient production process.

“To prepare our Toolmaking Division for the future, we have made additional investments of more than €45 million at the Ingolstadt site,” says Frank Dreves, Member of the Board of Management for Production at AUDI AG. “This will enable us to complete significantly more vehicle projects than would have been possible before – an important prerequisite for the implementation of our model initiative,” emphasizes Dreves.

The new facility will be the home to a new Plant and Equipment Construction, where important parts of the body shop plants are developed and built. Also a new learning station for mechatronics trainees will be found here, along with the Laser Team, which cuts the required shapes from the metal blanks. The facility will also have a storage area for raw castings.

“Investing in modern buildings and machinery, in new, environmentally friendly products, and promoting members of the workforce through qualification and training measures represent investments in secure jobs and in the future of Audi,” stresses Peter Mosch, Chairman of the General Works Council of AUDI AG.

Almost 900 people are employed in toolmaking at the Ingolstadt plant alone, with roughly 1,700 employed in toolmaking throughout the company.
