Audi Completes Hat-Trick in Auto Trophy

The Audi A1, Audi R8 Spyder and the Audi A5 Sportback were voted the best in their class by readers of the German car magazine "Auto Zeitung". The “2010 Auto Trophy” poll gathered the votes of more than 103,000 readers, choosing Audi to take three of the highly coveted class awards in this annual event. Five other models were runners-up and another took third place.

The German car manufacturer has secured another win, continuing its dominance for seven consecutive years. During the 23 years of Auto Trophy, the Bavarian automaker has gained this prestigious award 46 times for various models. Dusseldorf’s “Meilenwerk” was host of the event at which the trophies were presented yesterday.

In the "midsize car" category, the Audi A5 Sportback was voted by 22.6 percent of the participants, taking the "Auto Trophy" for the second consecutive year. The Audi R8 Spyder won the accolade in the “Convertibles above 30,000 euros” category with 19.6 percent of the votes.

The new Audi A1 took the award in the "Small cars" category with 28.7 percent of the votes, and was subsequently awarded the “Golden Steering Wheel”, proving to be of great success.

Audi also secured second place in other categories with the Audi A3 (“Compact class”), the Audi A3 Cabriolet (“Convertibles up to 30,000 euros”), the Audi RS 5 (Sports cars”), the Audi R8 (“Supersport models”) and the Audi A8 (“Luxury class”). The Audi A7 Sportback took third place in the "Large Cars" class.

The brand with the four rings eliminated all competition in the Image Report, topping 47 other manufacturers for the seventh time in a row with 38.5 percent of the votes.

More than 103,000 readers of “Auto Zeitung” voted their favorites from about 400 models in 29 categories, determining the winners in the 23rd edition of Auto Trophy.
