Audi Receives Lean Production Award

German manufacturer Audi is the holder of perhaps the largest collection of automotive awards not for their cars, but for the way in which they build them. Another such prize was given to Audi this week by the trade journal Automobil Produktion.

The publication gave Audi the Automotive Lean Production Award as a recognition of the way in which the carmaker manufactures its cars. More precisely, Automobil Produktion was impressed with Audi's “Poka-Yoke” error avoidance measures used by the employees in the production process or the front-loading concept which blends production with design. All of these advancements have been recorded in the Ingolstadt plant, the reason for which Audi received the award.

This is the second consecutive time the German carmaker Audi received the award (last year, it received it for the production plant of the A3) in the five years the trade journal Automobil Produktion and the business consulting firm Agamas Consult have awarded the Automotive Lean Production Award. To win the award, the German manufacturer had to battle no less than 60 companies.

“The second award in a row corroborates our production philosophy. My thanks go out to all the members of the team, who drive our continuous improvement process with their creative ideas,” said Peter Kossler, manager of Audi’s Ingolstadt plant.

“We are proud that we have once again established ourselves as a benchmark in the industry," added Audi's Kossler. “We understand, however, that where we are today is only a stop along the way to an even better tomorrow.”
