Aston Martin Wins Second Round in Japan

The Aston Marting Racing team made its Japanese debut at the Asian Le Mans Series the past weekend, winning the second round and finishing on the second place overall, behind the Sora Racing team. According to George Howard-Chappel, Team Principal, this was the result of the excellent performance from the two drivers, but of the team’s pit crew as well.

“I was surprised to see the car had improved so much from yesterday. Full credit to race engineer Dave Wilcock and the rest of the team for flawless work this weekend and I’d like to thank our sponsors and tire partner Michelin. It has been a pleasure coming to Japan; the whole team has been made to feel very welcome. It’s a great way to finish the season,” he said in a company release.

Stefan Mucke started the race from the fourth place, managing to take the lead by lap 15. Harold Primat took over the 007 Aston Martin LMP1 car on lap 39, just before the one hour mark.

Mucke got behind the wheel again on lap 83, with just over an hour of the race remaining. The German driver managed to keep the lead until he took the checkered flag for the Aston Martin Racing team.

“The car was brilliant to drive and the Michelin tires were perfect. The team made some minor changes to the set-up last night and it was as if someone flicked a switch and everything just came together. During my first stint the car got better and better each lap and the tires gave me the confidence to overtake and get out in the lead,” said Mucke.

“I’m so happy! This is my first win in sports cars and I am very pleased that it was with Aston Martin Racing. [...] The track conditions definitely helped and the car and the team worked really well today,” added Primat.
