Aston Martin Heads for Asian Le Mans Debut

After it won the Team, Driver and Manufacturer Le Mans Series titles, Aston Martin Racing is revving up for the inaugural round of the Asian Le Mans Series in Okayama on October 31 - November 1. This will mark the Japanese debut for the team, who will sent the Gulf liveried LMP1 car numbered 007 to the event.

Drivers Harald Primat and Stefan Mucke will be competing at the 2.3 mile (3.7 km) 13-turn Okayama International Circuit. The FIA World Touring Car Championship will also be hosted there during the same weekend.

“2009 has been a fantastic year,” said Aston Martin Racing Team Principal, George Howard-Chappell. “We have enjoyed great success all over Europe and now we head to Japan to compete in the first ever Asian Le Mans Series race.”

There will also be other two Aston Martins competing at the event, namely a GT1 DBR9 from Hitotsuyama Team Nova and a Vantage GT2 from Team Hong Kong Racing.

“It’s difficult to say if the circuit will suit the car as we haven’t tested there before so we will have to wait and see,” commented Mucke. “I’m partnering with Harald (Primat) for the first time in Japan but as he is tall like me I think we will be able to find a comfortable driving position. The shorter three-hour format will mean qualifying is more important as the races will be more like sprints."

“It is great to be driving with Stefan, he has done an amazing job all season and although I have really enjoyed driving with Darren (Turner) it will be interesting to share a different experience with another great driver,”
said Primat, who moved form his usual seat in the 009 Aston Martin car.
