If it seems weird to you that Aston Martin is putting the Virage to sleep, that’s because it is weird. The Virage has only been on the market for 18 months and has sold just 1,000 units and now it’s being discontinued, in both coupe and convertible forms.
When we met the Virage at last year’s Geneva Motor Show, we didn’t get quite what we expected and it seems that the customers felt the same way, with the poor sales determining Aston to pull it out of its range.
The Virage will be replaced by the upcoming new-generation DB9. This will also allow the latter to move upmaket, but so much that it would threaten the new Vanquish. However, it’s still to early to be certain about the new DB9’s facts, so we’ll have to wait for Aston to make its move.
The only positive thing for the Virage could be the fact that such a limited production will make it a highly collectable model in the future, when its less than perfect assets that affect it now won't matter all that much.
