Despite the mixed reaction to the Lagonda Concept that previewed a future Aston Martin SUV, the British carmaker has recently confirmed to Inside Line that it is continuing the development of the vehicle.
Just like the aforementioned concept, which was presented at the 2009 Geneva Motor Show, the production version will use the Mercedes GL as a starting point. We’re not just talking about the platform here, but also about the engine range, as Aston is currently negotiating with Mercedes in order to borrow multiple petrol and maybe even diesel anbd hybrid power solution. The British carmaker is also expected to offer its tradition V12 powerplant in a flagship version of the SUV.

However, Aston Martin hasn’t decided if it wants to revive the Lagonda name for the SUV or if it will market it as an Aston Martin. Either way, it seems like Bentley (which also has a lot of work to do after the negative public reaction to the EXP 9 F SUV concept) and Lamborghini (whose Urus SUV concept has been well received) will get tough competition from Aston Martin.
