While Google Maps and Waze are the preferred choices when it comes to navigation apps, some just stick with Apple Maps on their iPhones and on Apple CarPlay because it’s the native solution on the device.
And given Apple Maps has evolved substantially lately, especially in the United States where the coverage is much better today, it makes sense for some iPhone owners to use it and not Google Maps.
As a matter of fact, Apple Maps also offers the full experience on CarPlay, as it’s the first app that supports the dashboard screen available in the latest version. Neither Google Maps nor Waze support the Multiview screen on CarPlay, although they are expected to receive such improvements soon.
And now there’s another reason to continue using Apple Maps for navigation.
Apple has silently updated the Siri guidance with more phrases and information when you get closer to the destination. While the closer arrival entrances messages have been around for a while for some, they are now going live for more users.
And at the same time, Apple has also added new guidance when the user enters a parking lot, which is a welcome change especially as Apple Maps is now expanding its coverage. So now when you’re about to reach your destination, the Siri guidance tells “you’ve entered the parking lot.”
While these are subtle improvements, they certainly come in handy for everyone, so users who stick with Apple Maps seem to be getting a more polished experience with more and more minor updates.
Again, these refinements are only available in the United States, albeit instructions to enter a parking lot have also been offered elsewhere. But for now, it looks like the U.S. is the best region for sticking with Apple Maps, whereas Google Maps works just neatly in so many other countries for both navigation on a mobile phone and in apps like Android Auto and CarPlay on car screens.
