Google released the first Android Auto 10 beta a few days ago, but the company found no significant bugs in the testing builds. As a result, Android Auto 10 has just been promoted to the stable channel, so it's now available for download for all users.
The Android Auto 10 rollout happens through the Google Play Store, as it typically happens with all new app versions.

However, because of the phased rollout model, some users will have to wait more than others to receive the new update. The strategy allows Google to provide enhanced stability and reliability, as it can monitor the feedback and potentially block the update from landing on specific devices if it determines an increased likelihood of bugs.

If you don't want to wait for Google to push Android Auto 10 to your device through the Google Play Store, you can now download the new update using the stand-alone APK installer. The method involves a manual app update, so you must download the installer on your device, launch the update, and then follow the on-screen instructions to complete the process.

The new Android Auto 10 build (version 10.0.6328) is available on this page. Save the file on your smartphone, navigate to its location, and tap the installer.

Depending on the configuration of your Android device, the update may require new permissions. Android is not configured to allow app installation from third-party sources, so if you see a prompt during the update process, you must grant the required access to complete the installation.

Android Auto 10 doesn't bring any significant changes, despite the version number suggesting otherwise. It's a minor release focused mainly on under-the-hood optimizations and fixes.

The only notable improvement spotted since this build landed in the beta channel is a new Google Assistant animation appearing on the screen when using the wake-up phrase. It's still unclear if the change is powered by Android Auto 10 or a recent Google app update – the Google app powers the Assistant experience on Android and Android Auto.

Google did not release a changelog for Android Auto 10, as the company still lists old information for every new update.

In the meantime, the Android Auto app ecosystem keeps growing as more developers join the platform, especially in the smart home world. Google unlocked smart home apps on Android Auto earlier this year. Now, developers bring their apps to the car for easy access to smart garage doors, home security systems, and interior lighting. The latest big name to join Android Auto is Alarm.com, with the company's latest app update bringing support for the car-optimized experience and the essential feature package, such as routines and one-tap access to smart home equipment and alarm systems.
