If you’re ever in Colon, Michigan, do make sure you hitch a ride with the Amish Uber. It’s the best thing in terms of ride-sharing without actually having to get inside a car – or drive one.
Just because they don’t drive cars doesn’t mean that the Amish people can’t enjoy the benefits of ride-sharing. Thanks to Timothy Hochstedler and his idea, they now have what he likes to call the “Amish Uber.”

We’re not sure whether this isn’t a case of infringement, but for the time being, Timothy is basking in the media attention his service is getting. Starting from the same idea that Uber operates on, he’s putting his personal buggy and horse to the service of the community – for a fee, of course.

Rides have a fixed fee of $5 and there is the clear advantage of being able to hail one without having to download and use an app. The downside is the you must flag the buggy yourself, which means you have to see it first.

Speaking to the media, Timothy says he loves helping people see the town because that also means swapping stories with them. He also gets to make a few bucks, so there’s that, too.

“Uber is a cool thing, every single year something new comes in and Uber is hot right now so we have the Amish Uber we can deliver people to their front door steps,” he explains.

His horse loves the extra attention as well. “He loves people. He's a Morgan. A Morgan is a people's horse they love giving you a kiss or whatever.”

The best part, though, is that people are also loving the idea – and spending time with Timothy and his kissing horse. Whether they’re tourists or members of the local Amish community, Amish Uber riders have nothing but nice things to say about the new service. For the time being.
