Ford's EcoBoost Mustang makes for an ideal starting point when considering an ambitious aftermarket project. However, all the boost play allowed by the turbine under the hood can have dire consequences, as showcased by the drag strip pony we're here to show you.
The forced-fed 'Stang in question had been taken far, far away from its factory setup and while we're not aware of the turbo-four's exact output, we can tell you the coupe could beat also-tuned Mustang GTs in the quarter-mile.
In fact, you can see the EcoBoost delivering low-11s passes in the piece of footage below - keep in mind that, in factory trim, the 2.3-liter turbo-powered pony is a low-14s car, while a standard V8 Mustang needs around 13 seconds for the job.
Alas, it didn't take too many runs until the turbocharged Ford went into limp oil spill mode, making quite a mess in the starting area of the drag strip that had seen it achieving its temporary hero status throughout the day.
Don't get us wrong, such an unfortunate even doesn't mean you shouldn't pursue your downsizing dreams. But you should pay attention to the extra boost vs. supporting mods equations, as a poor ratio in this area is usually what causes issues such as the one we can see here.
And while we're talking sprint-friendly EcoBoost Mustangs, we'll mention the four-cylinder pony car has already descended into the 10s quarter-mile arena.
This kind of performance does requite an incredibly long list of mods, though, so going for the EcoBoost becomes more of an ambition that a practical choice.
