Alpina used the Frankfurt Auto Show to introduce a new summer sensation, in the form of the B6 Bi-Turbo Convertible. We are talking about a creation based on the BMW 650i, which has received the tuning specialist’s usual extensive treatment.
We’ll start our story under the bonnet, where the 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 unit has been fitted with MAHLE pistons, a high-performance cooling system that includes an indirect inter-cooling system (air-to-water/water-to-air) with short intake tracts and increased inter-cooler flow. All the tech play has resulted in a new output of 507 hp and 516 lb-ft (700 Nm) of torque, which can be translated into a 100 hp and 74 lb-ft (100 Nm) increase.
The tuner has also tweaked the eight-speed automatic transmission, with all the mods allowing the topless ride to hit 62 mph in 4.8 seconds and a top speed 311 km/h (193 mph).
Alpina brags that the modifications won’t affect the fuel efficiency, with the vehicle returning an average of 21.5 US mpg (10.9 liters per 100 km) and emitting 255 grams of CO2 per km.
