Alonso Tells Renault to Think about the Future

Fernando Alonso admitted for the first time this season that he'd be more inclined to think about the 2010 campaign rather than continue to focus on the Renault R29. The Spaniard has failed to score a single point in the last couple of races and reckoned that, unless his team will find a magical solution to their problems this year, the current season is as good as compromised.

Alonso argued that a good result at Silverstone would have been at hand for him on the condition he'd benefited from a good start. Having started from 10th place and losing some 4 positions at the start, however, the British Grand Prix was nothing but another data-collection session for the Renault technicians.

The Spaniard finished the British Grand Prix in 14th place, some 2 positions behind teammate Nelsinho Piquet.

“Last year we were in more or less the same position but suddenly we introduced changes that allowed us to win. Now we are hoping for another magic step. But I know that in reality it is really difficult to do something this year and it is necessary to think about the future,” Alonso was quoted as saying by Spanish newspaper Diario AS.

Earlier this month, it was another champion that urged his team to start preparing for the 2010 season, as this year's campaign has already been compromised. McLaren's Lewis Hamilton reckoned he has not chances to retaining his world crown this year and said the future is much more important for him than continuing a useless 2009 struggle.

The Woking based team seems to have picked up Hamilton's advice, as they have not debuted any new components on the MP4-24 since F1 moved back to Europe a month-and-a-half ago.
