Alonso: Renault Getting Better and Better

While previewing the Turkish Grand Prix this weekend, 2-time Formula One champion Fernando Alonso boosted his team's morale by suggesting the Renault R29 will surely become a race winner in the months to come. While reckoning this will not happen during the upcoming race at Istanbul Otodrom, Alonso is convinced he will not end his 2009 campaign without a win under his belt.

He admitted this year's situation resembles the one last year, when Renault went off to a disastrous start to eventually become one of the best cars on the grid in the closing stages of the season. Alonso is yet to score a podium after the first 6 rounds of the season, but announced the Enstone based team will bring new developments on the R29 in Turkey.

It's clear that we need to take another step forward. We will have new developments for the car over the next few weeks and that should help, but I'm not expecting to jump to the front of the grid in Turkey,” said Alonso.

However, I still believe that later in the year we can be back fighting for podiums and winning races, just as we did last year. We know it won't be easy, but the whole team is extremely motivated and determined to get back to the front,” added the Spaniard.

According to Renault's chief of engineering Pat Symonds, Renault are very close to implementing their final version of the double diffuser on both Alonso's and Nelson Piquet's machineries. It is expected that the system will be brought some new improvements in Turkey, along with some other aerodynamic tweaks.
