Alonso Urges Renault to Squeeze 0.5 Secs per Lap

Believe it or not, there are some people who are more interested in their 2009 Formula One campaign rather than keeping a close eye on the FIA vs FOTA dispute. Having already picked his favorites in the aforementioned battle, 2-time world champion Fernando Alonso is now focusing on how he can squeeze some extra 0.5-seconds per lap from his struggling Renault R29.

Although admitting his team are doing everything they can to improve the 2009 car race after race, Alonso urged them to find the necessary updates in order to secure that time margin by the upcoming British Grand Prix.

The priority is to introduce new technical developments in order to find some more performance. We are missing around 0.5s per lap from the leaders. It's a small gap, but at the moment it counts for a lot. I know that the whole team is continuing to work hard to improve our situation,” said Alonso after his point-less finish in Turkey.

Some new developments are expected for Silverstone and I hope that they will allow us to aim for regular points and have a strong second half of the season,” added the Spaniard.

After 7 races in the 2009 Formula One championship, Alonso is on a distant 9th place in the overall classification, having so far scored only 11 points. The Spaniard has been the only driver bringing home points for Renault, but failed to make a single podium appearance in almost half of season. His best point finishes this season have been two 5th places in Australian and Spain.
