Renault Debut Updated Diffuser, Front Wing at Silverstone

Fernando Alonso is still trustful of his team to turn the page on their Formula One campaign this year, despite his point-less performance in Turkey. While doing a “clean race” in Istanbul, his Renault R29 only finished 10th overall, making for Alonso's 3rd point-lacking event of the year.

While admitting his chances to clinching the world title are over, the 2-time F1 champion insisted he still believes Renault can improve their car and turn it into a race winning machinery by the end of the season. The fact that the Enstone based team managed to do the same thing last year is proof enough that they'll never give up on the 2009 campaign.

I have a lot of faith in this team and I know that everybody is working hard to improve our situation. We've been together a long time and have shown before that we never give up,” said Alonso.

But we need to be realistic because all the other teams are pushing just as hard to develop their cars and so it's not easy to take a big step forward. We just need to keep adding parts at each race to make sure we can fight for points and hopefully podiums on a regular basis,” added the Spaniard.

As revealed by Renault's technical director Bob Bell in a preview for the British Grand Prix the upcoming weekend, the R29 will feature several updates, aimed at creating a step forward in terms of performance for both Alonso and teammate Nelson Piquet. The car will benefit from a new version of the double-decker diffuser and a new revised front wing. In addition, some mechanical changes will also be put in place for the Silverstone race.

We will continue to react quickly and when we find a development that brings the desired result, we will do everything in our power to get it on the car as soon as possible,” added Bell.
