Subaru’s all-new Forester recorded excellent results when it was tested by Euro NCAP, being granted the maximum five-star rating. However, since the previous generation car was not tested in Europe, we cannot make an accurate judgement of just how much the car’s safety has improved.
It achieved an excellent score of 91%, thanks to a very stable and solid passenger cell, with the only notable shortcoming being the dreaded pole test, where the Forester achieved marginal results, and the dummies indicated some rib compression, but nothing particularly severe.

Child occupants are also very safe in Subaru’s crossover, as it achieved the same 91% score, thanks to very minimal movement of the child seats. Worth noting is a system which only turns on the passenger airbag if an occupant of suitable size and mass is detected.

The Forester also received a decent score for pedestrian protection, as it received a score of 73Z%, with its bumper scoring maximum points, while the edge of the bonnet was marked as ‘poor’ - the bonnet provided ‘good’ protection, though. It scored highly, yet again, in the safety assist category, with an 86% rating, courtesy of seatbelt reminders and standard-fit ESP - it didn`t get full marks here, as it lacked a speed limiter.
