Chevrolet is missing in action from the 2023 SEMA Show as it's dealing with a lot of stuff right now – the late-into-production Equinox, Blazer, and Silverado EVs, the early retirement of the sixth-generation Camaro, and more.
The company has pushed for a contemporary look for its lineup – especially the crossovers from the lower bottom of the family. As such, the Trax and Trailblazer both look decidedly fresh and in tune with the latest split-headlight trends. Meanwhile, the big ones like the Traverse crossover SUV are turning to truck styling for guidance to make them even more rugged and desirable.

Soon, GM's biggest brand will also showcase the facelifted Tahoe and Suburban body-on-frame traditional SUVs, and we all expect them to feature the same DNA as the all-new Traverse. But that leaves the middle-ground models in a precarious situation: do they side with the little ones or the big SUVs? For example, how are we going to look at the next-gen Equinox – with indulgence or highly critical?

Well, it seems that even the imaginative realm of digital car content creators is unsure what comes next. As such, they are going down the easy road of subtle digital enhancements. However, at least the visions from the Halo oto and PoloTo channels are leaving us with a sour taste of what's to come – their imagined fourth-generation Chevy Equinox is still as bland as it can be, at least as far as a compact crossover SUV is concerned.

Well, maybe it's not the fault of the resident pixel masters from Halo oto or PoloTo. After all, the Chevy Equinox lives in a precarious spot. This crossover SUV was introduced by the GM subsidiary in 2004 for the 2005 model year, and it had big shoes to fill in – it was envisioned as the modern replacement of the North American Chevrolet Tracker and Chevrolet S-10 Blazer. Additionally, the third-gen model, which downsized from mid-size to the compact CUV class, also replaced the Chevrolet Captiva.

Besides, the American brand also introduced us to the cooler-styled battery electric version of the Equinox back in early 2022. It is supposed to go on sale this fall for the 2024 model year, and it rocks contemporary traits like the front LED strip across the body's width. So, how is the ICE-powered Equinox supposed to come out on top of that and also stand out in a crowd?

According to the CGI experts, it will adopt a boxier styling and feature the split-headlight styling of the Trax and Trailblazer. Additionally, the rear lights will also be a little more fleshed out to make sure it's easy to recognize at night. However, is that enough to fight for the crown of compact CUV sales when the segment is dominated by models like the Toyota RAV4 and Honda CR-V, among many others?
