We have just survived another Halloween, but there's no time to thank the higher powers that we're still alive. Instead, we need to deal with everything that's currently going on across the automotive industry – both the real and imagined one.
October 31 is, per tradition, all about trick-or-treating if you're young or young at heart and also about horror marathons if you're mature enough to handle the scares without heart palpitations. But for automotive enthusiasts, this day was even more interesting. At the Tokyo Big Sight International Convention Center, the inaugural edition of the Japan Mobility Show is still in full swing, and from there, we found out the 2025 Nissan Z might arrive with an orange-tastic color option, for example.

In America, meanwhile, the 2023 SEMA Show kicked off at the Las Vegas Convention Center in Nevada, and the Japanese automaker Toyota dared to oppose the locals with stuff like FJ specialty builds, interesting Lexus SUVs, and a slew of N400 Toyota Tacoma mid-size pickup trucks. The latter roster, for example, included the fresh 421-hp twin-turbo V6 i-Force-swapped Tacoma X-Runner sports truck, among others.

But do you think that the real world is dreamier than the imaginative realm of digital car content creators? Not at all, especially if you look at the parallel universes of vehicular CGI from the perspective of the virtual car artist behind the Scuffed Pixels Art & Media account on social media, who is back in CGI action after a long hiatus, and he/she came up with this – a 'fixth-generation' Toyota 4Runner (N380?) SUV acting as a "reliable zombie escape and removal vehicle."

Yep, it was the pixel master's Halloween treat for us, of course. But under the funky camouflage, behind the massive suspension lift, above the bead-lock capable wheels and meaty all-terrain tires, and below that roof-mounted machine gun sits his interpretation of the fifth-gen refresh/sixth generation (hence the 'fixth' mashup) 4Runner SUV.

We already know the boat has sailed for Toyota to revamp the old-school SUV for the 2024 model year – the Japanese automaker flexed the fifth generation with a new TRD Sport Package, among others. But everyone, of course, eagerly awaits the company's next move – and everyone thinks it will take lots of design cues and the modern body-on-frame TNGA-F platform DNA from the N400 Tacoma.

By the way, if you also want to see the imagined (N380) Toyota 4Runner without the cool camouflage and apocalypse-ready accessories, the CGI expert also reworked the traditional SUV in orange not long ago. As such, we quickly embedded that version below, too, for our guilty viewing pleasure. Of course, do take all these renderings with a healthy dose of skepticism, as nothing is official from Toyota just yet – and it sure feels like the Japanese automaker is trying to break a record of longevity with the current 4Runner.
