Skoda has put the hypothetical spotlight on the next-gen Kodiaq again, this time using a few official design sketches. The brand's flagship crossover promises to be better than its predecessor in every aspect, though it won't look anywhere as dynamic or dramatic as the one depicted in these images.
An evolution of the car launched in 2017 with previous-gen VW Tiguan (Allspace), SEAT Tarraco, and Audi Q3 underpinnings, the all-new Skoda Kodiaq has new everything, including second-gen Matrix LED headlights, squared-off wheel arches, and 17- to 20-inch alloys. The rear pillars will be available in a Dark Chrome finish as an option, which will be limited to this model.
Making their debut on the 2024 Kodiaq are the so-called TOP LED Matrix headlights, whereas at the opposite end, it will feature C-shaped taillights with a thin strip linking them together on the lower ends. The new Skoda lettering will decorate the tailgate, between the light strip and the rear windshield, and further down, we might see additional emblems, depending on the powertrain and trim.
Measuring 4,758 mm (187.3 in) in length, which is 61 mm (2.4 in) more than its predecessor, the new Kodiaq should offer improved interior space and a slightly bigger cargo area. The interior was already revealed and seems to have been inspired by the new VW Tiguan and Passat Variant. It has a 10-inch digital instrument cluster, a 13-inch touchscreen infotainment system, and three 1.25-inch displays on the rotary push-button dials on the center console that can be customized to control different aspects.
Besides revealing the cabin of the mid-size crossover and speaking about some of the tech highlights, the Czech automaker, which is part of the Volkswagen Group, has also detailed the powertrain family. As expected, it will launch with gasoline, diesel, mild hybrid, and plug-in hybrid options.
In the PHEV configuration, it will have an electric range of over 62 miles (100 km), Skoda claims, and a combined 201 horsepower to play with. This model will be front-wheel drive, featuring a six-speed DSG transmitting the power to the wheels. A 1.5-liter mild-hybrid with 148 hp will also be on deck, with a seven-speed DSG and FWD, joined by a 2.0L TSI gasoline mill with 201 hp and AWD. The diesel family will comprise the 148 hp and 190 hp 2.0L TDIs, with front- and all-wheel drive, respectively. Both oil burners have a seven-speed DSG.
A battery-electric alternative is not coming, not yet anyway, as the car manufacturer will introduce a zero-emission seven-seater crossover in 2026, which is said to be sold alongside its ICE-powered siblings. Skoda is just about ready to uncover the all-new Kodiaq. The grand unveiling will be hosted one week from today, on October 4, and will be streamed online on the company's official channels. The order books should open shortly after the premiere.
