What is Acura? We honestly don't know what this semi-America, semi-Honda brand stands for. On the one hand, there's the NSX, on the other, huge SUVs with hybrid drive. Even if they don't have a core identity like BMW or Audi does, having a racing car can't hurt sales.
At least that's that what we think they were thinking when they unveiled the TLX GT race car at the North American International Auto Show. This awesome looking machine will take on the Pirelli World Challenge in the GT Class, taking on very serious competitors like the Audi R8, Ferrari 458 or Mercedes SLS.
If that doesn't scare up some customers, nothing will!
The race car is created by Honda Performance Development (HPD) around a racing chassis (not a real TLX). Going up against mostly V8 and V10 competitors, the Acura sedan will be using a twin-turbo 3.5-liter V6 that's loosely similar to the 2015 TLX.
"The 2015 Acura TLX is a true luxury sport sedan, so it is fitting that the car be raced against several of its natural luxury competitors in the Pirelli World Challenge," said Honda Performance Development President Art St. Cyr. "Acura and Peter Cunningham's RealTime Racing organization have a long history of success together, and we look forward to adding to that tradition with the Acura TLX GT race car in 2014."
