According to some recent rumors, BMW is indeed working on an M-powered X3 crossover that could arrive as early as next year with somewhere around 450 horsepower. Of course, a body kit with an aggressive chin spoiler will also be part of the deal, and you can bet your Monopoly money that the X3 M will have huge wheels that are useless off-road.

If you’re not willing to wait a year, or simply want the huge wheels and a deep chin spoiler without the extra power, we might have something else for you. AC Schnitzer has gotten hold of the X3 and applied its custom touches to the compact crossover’s Bavarian exterior.

The aerodynamic kit for the new X3 includes a striking front spoiler, the rear roof spoiler and the AC Schnitzer protective film for the rear skirt. A special body demands a special set of wheels, so the tuner has fitted the X3 with a choice of Type VIII forged racing rims in 22-inch, or Type VII racing rims in BiColor or silver in 22-inch. The range also includes one-piece rims of Type VI (BiColor), Type VIII (BiColor) and Type IV (BiColor or Silver) in sizes 18, 19 or 20 inch. Basically, you won’t be wanting for rims.

Another thing you won't want it for is power - AC Schnitzer’s engine specialists have increased power for the X3 xDrive20d from 184 hp to 218 hp. The tuner is also working on a new exhaust for the xDrive30d diesel and the more powerful petrol models.

AC Schnitzer has take things beyond the world of tuning, and have crash-tested their front bumper for pedestrian safety. You can watch the car being hit in slow motion by a cylinder. The front of the car looks like it’s made of gelatin and deforms easily.
