Few battles fought on the contemporary drag racing scene polarize car aficionados like those involving the Dodge Challenger Hellcat and the Chevrolet Corvette Z06. And even when one of the two machines is actually a lesser model mimicking the range-topper's effort with an aftermarket blower, the debate remains intense.
This is exactly what happens in the drag race we're here to show you, which involves a Hellcat and a supercharged Chevrolet Corvette Stingray.

The 6.2-liter heart of the 'Vette had been taken all the way to 700 ponies, but the driver of the Mopar machine wasn't exactly worried about that, since his Hellcat had also received aftermarket attention.

As a result, the blown HEMI has jumped from 707 to 850 hp. This meant that, despite the serious scale footprint difference separating the two speed devils, their outputs promised a balanced fight.

The Chevy and the Dodge raced on two different occasions, but, given the fact that the driver of the muscle car overcooked things on the second run, getting a red light as a result of that, we'll keep the focus on the first run.

With the current drag racing seasons now almost over, we're looking forward to the 2018 hostilities and that's not just because of some new tuning package. Instead, both the Challenger and the Corvette are set to receive even meaner versions next year, with these scheduled to land as 2018 model.

We'll start with the Chevy, as the 2018 Corvette ZR1 has been a constant presence in our spy-related headlines. Since the 'Vette is moving on to a mid-engined layout for the C8 generation, we can't wait to meet the swansong of the C7 generation.

The changes should be less intense for the Dodge Challenger ADR, with the list expected to be led by fatter rubber that should allow the bodybuilder to grasp the concept of grip.

And while we have some serious waiting to do before these two American heroes show up, we'll return with their drag strip adventures as soon as we get out hands on them.
