The rivalry involving Mclaren and Porsche feels spot on when it comes to lapping a circuit, but the horsepower advantage Woking machines usually pack means that drag racing brawls pitting them against Zuffenhausen heroes are usually unbalanced. And this is where the tuning realm steps in.
One of the tuning world's favorite children - this is a label we've used for the Porsche 911 on multiple occasions and the Neunelfer example we want to show you battling a McLaren is no exception.
The rear-engined coupe in question is a 2015 911 Turbo S, which, in factory stock form, delivers 560 HP and 553 lb-ft of twist. And while we're not aware of the vehicle's current output, we can tell you the twin-turbo 3.8-liter flat-six at the back of the supercar has been gifted with a Giac ECU remap and a Tubi cat back exhaust. So yes, this also sounds like a 911 dream.
As for the British-built enemy of this Porscha, the 675 Longtail hasn't received any aftermarket attention, which means the coupe packs 666 ponies and 515 lb-ft of torque - with McLaren only building 500 units of the fixed-roof LT, don't expect owners to rush into tuning shops.
The two get together at the drag strip, but while the supercars seem to pack about the same level of firepower, we can't say the same about the reaction times of their drivers.
Even so, we'll remind you that drag races have two types of winners. The first is declared according to what the public sees. As for the second, which is the one that actually matters, that title is awarded based on the figures shown at the end of the run, which don't take the reaction times into account.
And if this 675 Longtail happens to seem familiar, it might be because we've recently shown you the weapon being used against its own breed, namely battling a 650S Spider.
