Chrysler Group dealers have ordered more than 8,000 units of the brand new 2014 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel pickup truck in the first weekend they were able to purchase them, Automotive News reports.
The figure represents nearly half of the truck’s normal monthly production and about five times the normal percentage of sold orders for a prelaunch vehicle, according to Ram Truck director Bob Hegbloom.
The orders were place between February 7 and 10 and included more than 400 EcoDiesels that had already been sold to customers.
“This just helps to solidify in our mind that we did the right thing with this truck,” Hegbloom said, adding that the percentage of initial diesel orders is about double or triple what executives had anticipated.
The 2014 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel is price from $30,465, including shipping. The 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V6 engine produces 240 hp and 420 lb-ft of torque and returns 28 mpg highway and 23 mpg combined.
