If you're interested in building a camper van and you don't have the time or skills to carry out the conversion yourself, you can choose from the myriad of specialized companies. Today, I'm checking out a well-equipped tiny home on wheels built by Vanspeed.
Vanspeed is a conversion company based in Westminster, CA. It has been building campervans for the past seven years, prioritizing top-of-the-line materials that balance rugged durability and multi-functionality.

The van we're discussing today is a 170" wheelbase 2021 Sprinter 3500 XD Dually made for Dan, who is all about exploration and adventure. And Vanspeed has come up with the perfect rig to suit these needs.

It takes only a glance at this van to figure out it's a well-equipped machine. Starting with its exterior, you'll notice it's designed to go off the beaten path. The van rides on Method Race Wheels paired with BF Goodrich all-terrain tires. What's more, the van features an upgraded suspension and a tire inflation mechanism.

At the front, you'll find a bull bar with integrated lights. By the way, you'll have no problem with visibility during the night in this rig, as it comes with six overhead lights on the roof rack and two by the windshield.

Another notable feature is a snorkel. Although it's commonly believed snorkels are for river crossings, there are other reasons why people install them. For example, snorkels help bring cleaner air from a higher vantage point, allowing the engine to run more smoothly when you're driving on dusty roads.

At the rear, you'll notice a carrier holding a spare tire, a Pro Eagle off-road jack, a propane tank, a shovel, and a storage box. What's more, on the sides, Vanspeed fitted steps and bump-out that create more interior space.

Although it looks like this van comes with a pop-top roof, that feature is, in fact, a Roofnest tent. It's mounted on a Vanspeed roof rack, along with two 100 W solar panels, a Maxxair fan, traction boards, and a Starlink.

This Sprinter's interior offers 85 square feet (almost 8 square meters) of space, which isn't a lot. Still, everything was cleverly designed to fit as many utilities as possible and provide a superior comfort level. As soon as you step inside, you'll have the seating area dead ahead.

It consists of a double seat with ample storage space below it and two cabinets above. Moreover, the driver's and passenger's seats have bags attached behind them to store stuff. Of course, there's no such thing as too many storage spaces in a tiny home on wheels.

One of the two overhead cabinets I just mentioned hides the vehicle's control panel. You'll discover controls for all the van's utilities, including the electrical systems, water systems, and a diesel heater.

In the driver's cabin, you'll notice Dan added a bar mount to hold his walkie-talkie, a GPS, and an iPad connected to the Starlink.

The kitchen takes up a significant part of the driver's side of the interior. It features a sink connected to a tiny grey tank, an induction stove, a small pull-out fridge/freezer, and various cabinets and drawers for storage. Above, you'll find four cabinets running along the ceiling up to the rear of the interior.

On the opposite side, you'll discover one of the most generally sought-after features in tiny homes on wheels: a bathroom. It's a simple and compact solution, equipped with a shower, a toilet paper holder, and a Porta Potty. Moreover, the water is supplied by a 40-gallon (151-liter) tank. Right beside the bathroom, Vanspeed devised a sizeable closet with an extra storage space underneath it.

The last remaining area in this van's living space is the bedroom. Like in many other camper conversions, you'll discover a dual-purpose setup. During the day or whenever he wants some extra seating spots, this area serves as a lounge with a dinette table and two benches, one on each side.

It's large enough to accommodate six, even eight people comfortably. Whenever that tiredness we all know creeps in, Dan can transform the space into a bedroom by extending the benches and rearranging the cushions. Moreover, the bump-outs I mentioned earlier each feature a window, and there's enough space under them to store small stuff.

You always want to avoid dead spaces when dealing with camper vans. In this unit, the remaining areas underneath the benches were used for storage and fitting an outdoor shower and an A/C.

All in all, Vanspeed has built a genuinely comfortable camper van with an increased focus on comfort and convenience. The company offers various layouts for camper van projects – this one looks like the "Interstate" layout, with a starting price of $84,000 (€77,011). You can discover more information about Vanspeed and its projects on the company's official website.
