With van life being so popular nowadays, if you're not interested in making your own build, you can find countless specialized conversion companies that can bring your vision to life. Today, I'm taking a look at a 4x4 Sprinter van that was transformed into a comfortable and very off-grid-capable tiny home on wheels.
Most people choose the mobile home lifestyle because of the freedom it offers. One of the most fulfilling experiences is to go deep into nature and explore – of course, to go off the beaten path, you need the proper setup, just like the one on this unit created by Viking Van Customs.

Viking Van Customs is a company based in Littleton, Colorado, that specializes in building custom camper vans. What we have here is a 4x4 2022 2500 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter with a 170" wheelbase and a diesel engine.

You'll notice how off-road-ready this vehicle is as soon as you lay eyes on it. At the front, you'll discover an Owl Vans bumper, a 12,000-lb. (5,443 kg) winch, two recovery points, pod lights, and an LED bar up above.

This camper rides on Black Rhino Arsenal wheels wrapped in a set of BF Goodrich Baja Champion all-terrain tires. These not only enable the vehicle to tackle trails with ease but also give it a cool look.

On the sides of the camper, you'll notice two side flares that increase the interior space toward the rear of the van.

At the rear, Viking Van Customs fitted extra lights and an Owl Vans ladder that holds a spare wheel. But the roof is where things get a bit crazier – most of the space up top is occupied by multiple solar panels with a total capacity of 700 W. The company also installed a Maxxair fan and a 12 V Nomadic A/C.

One nice detail is that there's a Starlink with a mounting system for the ladder rack – this setup allows the customer to attach a 10-foot (3-meter) pole with the Starlink satellite up top, so they'll be able to access the Internet wherever they are. What's more, a WeBoost signal booster ensures they get cell service wherever they are.

Slide the main door open, and you'll find a clean, lightly-colored interior with a functional yet aesthetically pleasing design. A small part of the entrance is occupied by a counter holding a table, which is made from ¾ bamboo and folds down outside the van. Move past it, and you'll notice switches for the lights and the sink's water pump on the counter's side.

The passenger's and driver's seats can be swiveled. Moreover, Viking Van Customs installed an Espar heater underneath the passenger's seat that comes with a high altitude kit, which automatically turns on the heater when it senses high altitudes.

Turn the driver's seat around, and you'll be facing the lounge area. It consists of a tiny bench with a huge drawer underneath, a sizeable lagoon table, a reading light, and two USB plugs. Up above, you'll find a display connected to a Victron Cervo GX, a monitoring system for the electricals.

This camper's cabinetry is made from plywood and white laminate – I know, white isn't a very practical color, but these panels feature protection against scratches and stains. Moreover, all the cabinets and drawers have RV latches.

The vinyl panels on the floor come with a pleasant surprise – underneath, Viking Van Customs fitted a 12 V heating pad from MiHeat, which is controlled via a thermostat. That's a fantastic feature to have, especially if you plan on adventuring in cold environments.

Step deeper into the interior, and you'll discover the kitchen. Right beside the seating area, Viking Van Customs added a 700 W microwave and an Isotherm fridge, as well as three drawers under them.

But you'll find the rest of the kitchen features on the opposite side. A large sink with an extendable faucet is integrated into a spacious countertop - its plumbing system is quite simple, comprised of a 7-gallon (26-liter) grey water tank in a cabinet underneath.

I'm not quite sure how you're supposed to cook in this van. There isn't any fixed stove, but I'm assuming, like in many other builds, there's an induction stove hidden somewhere.

Bathrooms are usually a sought-after feature in mobile homes, and this van has one. This wet bathroom is straightforward, with a dry flush toilet and an L-Trac setup that allows you to hang stuff. What's peculiar is that, despite having a dedicated space, the customer didn't want a shower inside and instead opted for an outdoor version.

The final part of the living space is the bedroom. It's a MOAB elevator bed mounted on L-Tracs, enabling you to set up the bed as high or low as you want. You get a bunch of light in this area through two side and two rear windows.

You can access the garage from both the outside at the rear or through a small pass-through underneath the bed - in fact, it's large enough to let you crawl inside. This is where the water and electrical systems are housed, with plenty of storage space left in between them. The water system consists of a 36-gallon (136-liter) freshwater tank, a 3-gallon (11-liter) pump, and a water heater.

The last surprise in this camper van will be the powerful Victron electrical system. It features batteries with a total 1,000 Ah capacity, a 3,000 W Multiplus inverter charger, two DC/DC chargers, and many other components that ensure you don't run out of power, especially since you have 700 W panels that provide plenty of juice.

All in all, this camper van is more than ready to be taken off-road and off-grid. It offers plenty of storage spaces and a significant amount of creature comforts. Viking Van Customs hasn't shared the exact price for the rig, but you can surely expect it to be on the higher side, probably $130K+ (€120K+). You can find out more about the company's vans on the official website.
