2JZ-Powered Honda S2000 Races on Texas Streets: No VTEC, Just 700 RWHP

The street racing scene in Texas is no stranger to the Toyota-hearted S2000 in the clip below, but the owner has had quite some work done on the compact rocket for 2015. Under that long hood, we find a 3-liter 2ZJ engine that breathes with the help of a 76-mm turbocharger.

While the tune was being perfected earlier this year, the turbo was taken all the way up to 30 PSI, which meant the rear wheels were gifted with north of 1,000 hp. Nevertheless, due to reliability and streetabilty issues, things were dialled down to about 700 hp, at least for the night when the adjacent footage was captured. We are, of course, talking about wheel horsepower here.

Still, since the S2000 tips the scales at under 3,000 lbs (1,350 kg), it puts up quite a fight. Speaking of which, we have to mention the 2JZ Honda raced a wide variety of machines. These ranged from JDM delights such as a 550 hp turbo Honda Civic and a 1,200 hp Nissan GT-R, to American muscle representatives including an 800 hp Cobra Mustang.

As it happens on most occasions, these were rolling start races, so the 275 rear tires on the S2000 coped with all the power.

By he way, the races you see here took place earlier this month in Texas during the TX2K15 event. This is one of the country’s greatest racing fests and, as it usually happens, the folks take the racing to the street at night.

This year it was a little different though, as the local police used a C7 Corvette as part of a sting that led to 8 street racers being arrested at TX2K.
