The Japanese automaker Honda has a bold outlook for 2024 across the US automotive market, and after the first month of the year, the corner office sales head honchos are already getting the first rewards and pats on the back.
The January sales results indicate a 12.7% jump for the namesake brand in America, with more than 84k units. The CR-V and Accord hybrids posted their best-ever January delivery figures; the compact crossover SUV soared by 31.6%, HR-V deliveries skyrocketed by 49%, and even the Civic was surrounded with love, given its 23.6% surge. Plus, the good news doesn't stop there.
Later this year, the company will premiere the enhanced Odyssey minivan, start sales of the Prologue EV crossover SUV, and introduce the CR-V Fuel Cell Vehicle (FCEV). However, the most significant move for 2024 will have to do with the arrival of the refreshed 2025 Civic, complete with the Civic Hybrid version joining the electrified roster. Naturally, it will receive styling and feature enhancements across the board in sedan and hatchback form.
After that, it's not hard to imagine that for the 2026 model year, Honda will also bring the facelift to the FL5 Civic Type R, right? However, some folks are looking even further into the future, and their opinion is that Honda might premiere the twelfth generation Civic as soon as the 2027 model year. Of course, there's no indication any of that will occur, but the imaginative realm of digital car content creators is always eager to speculate.
For example, Vince Burlapp (aka vburlapp on social media) is a prolific virtual artist who loves to dream of all the latest models across the wide-ranging automotive realm – and he thinks that after we get thoroughly acquainted with the mid-cycle refresh of the 2025 Civic, it won't take too long for the compact series to start the development and testing procedures for the next iteration. Of course, he has an opinion not only about the design of the next iteration but also about powertrains – his unofficial design project is styled according to a couple of possibilities: hybrid, PHEV, and EV.
More precisely, he views the 2027 Honda Civic offered with a hybrid powertrain on basic models, an intermediate PHEV for those seeking a little more range and the option to plug in at home, plus a full EV version that could take on the popular Tesla Model 3 in a couple of years from now. With the NACS charging standard taking over North America and EVs cheaper and cheaper to manufacture each year, his vision is that Honda won't let the Civic stay behind the novel EV adoption curve. What do you think?
