Going on sale in the fall of 2024, the Wagoneer S is Jeep's first production vehicle based on the STLA Large platform. Otherwise put, it's twinned with the 2025 model year Dodge Charger Daytona.
Stellantis published new pics of the series-production Wagoneer S, which reveal quite a few interesting details. For starters, we're dealing with a rotary shifter that allows the driver to select between P, R, N, and D. Just below the shifter, you'll notice no fewer than five drive modes: Sand, Snow, Eco, Auto, and Sport. We can further see a whopping four displays, beginning with a center console-mounted display for the automatic climate control, defroster, and front-seat massaging function.
Mounted centrally on the dashboard, the landscape-oriented touchscreen shows quite a few things, starting with premium audio from McIntosh. According to Jeep, the Wagoneer S will offer a segment-exclusive setup with 19 speakers. Controls for the heated steering wheel and front-seat heating and ventilation functions are featured as well.
Right in front of the driver, the digital instrument cluster is depicted in the navigation mode setting. The fourth display is mounted on the passenger side of the dashboard. In combination with ambient lighting, four displays may be one too many for many people in the market for an electric SUV.
The relatively short press release attached below further confirms a dual-pane panoramic sunroof coming as standard equipment. A completely different animal from the Ram 1500-based Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer, the Wagoneer S packs 600 horsepower from a dual-motor setup.
Jeep says that zero to 60 miles per hour (97 kilometers per hour) takes around 3.5 seconds. The Grand Cherokee Trackhawk was advertised with 3.5 seconds as well, although the discontinued model features a 707-horsepower V8 rather than two electric motors. As a brief refresher, the Hellcat-engined SUV belts out 645 pound-feet (875 Nm) of torque at 4,800 revolutions per minute.
The Wagoneer S will be followed by the Recon, which is best described as the Wrangler's zero-emission brother. Also based on the STLA Large platform, the Recon will be available to order in the US in the latter half of 2024 as a 2025 model. Intended for D-, E-, and F-segment vehicles, the STLA Large platform replaces the Chrysler L platform (think Dodge Charger and Challenger), the Giorgio (think Alfa Romeo Giulia and Stelvio), and the Maserati-specific M156 of the Ghibli, Levante, and Quattroporte.
Unfortunately, the Maserati Ghibli won't receive a zero-emission successor. Following the GranTurismo Folgore and Grecale Folgore, the Italian automaker will launch the MC20 Folgore in 2025. The Levante's replacement will follow suit in 2027, whereas the next-generation Quattroporte will premiere in 2028.
The STLA Large platform of the Wagoneer S, Recon, Charger Daytona, Levante Folgore, and Quattroporte Folgore "has the potential to carry extreme power that will outperform any of the existing Hellcat V8s." Conservatively speaking, that means over 800 horsepower. With a bit of luck, the STLA Large platform could surprise us with over 1,000 horsepower in 800-volt specification.
