Previously believed to roll out before year’s end, the mid-cycle refresh of the Ioniq 5 is due in the first half of 2024 for 2025. Recently spied testing under heavy camouflage at the Hyundai Motor Europe Technical Center in Russelsheim, the long-awaited redesign flaunts little in the way of visual updates.
Expected to launch in South Korea in the summer of 2024, the 2025 model does feature a slightly different front end. From the lower intake to the new locations of the parking sensors, the differences over the pre-facelift Ioniq 5 are obviously minor.

The rear end also sports relocated parking sensors. Unfortunately, the black camouflage doesn’t allow us to see whether a rear wiper has been added to the Ioniq 5. The only version to sport a rear wiper is the N, a high-performance thriller with drift mode and 641 horsepower (650 ps) for 10 seconds at a time.

The 2025 model year will further see Hyundai expand the trim level range with the N Line, which is best described as N looks without the N’s staggering performance. Over in the United States, a grand total of four nameplates come in N Line attire at press time: the mid-size Sonata, compact Elantra, compact Tucson, and subcompact-sized Kona.

As far as the camouflage allows it, we can’t see any changes to the signature lighting of the headlights. The same applies to the taillights, but on the other hand, bear in mind that we’re looking at an early prototype. Later on, Hyundai is likely to equip Ioniq 5 prototypes with new headlights and taillights.

As part of the mid-cycle refresh, we’re also expecting new wheel designs and some minor changes to the interior. The digital instrument cluster, touchscreen infotainment system, and central part of the dashboard are prime candidates.

As ever, look forward to both single- and dual-motor powertrain options. Battery choices will probably remain unchanged, although it’s easy to imagine slightly more capacity than before. Over in the United States, the Ioniq 5 can be had with either 58 kWh or 77.4 kWh. By comparison, the Ioniq 6 fastback sedan offers 53 kWh or 77.4 kWh. As a brief refresher, both the 5 and 6 are based on the manufacturer’s Electric Global Modular Platform.

E-GMP will further underpin the Ioniq 7, which is best described as the Hyundai-badged twin of the Kia EV9. Approximately the size of the Telluride, the EV9 kicks off at $54,900 in the United States. Hyundai’s equivalent to the EV6 is the Ioniq 5, which carries an MSRP of $41,450 at press time.

Covered by a five-year new vehicle warranty, the Ioniq 5 comes in four distinct flavors: SE Standard Range, SE, SEL, and Limited. The SE through Limited in rear-drive specification offer the most driving range. They all boast an EPA-estimated 303 miles (488 kilometers) on the combined test cycle.
