GM's truck-based sport utility vehicles were redesigned from the ground up in 2020 for the 2021 model year. Come 2024, all of them will receive a mid-cycle refresh that goes beyond exterior design.
Although it's due to arrive in late 2024 for the 2025 model year, the facelifted Tahoe and Suburban have already been revealed by the biggest automaker of the Big Three in Detroit. Slotted just above Chevrolet in GM's brand hierarchy, GMC is next in line to reveal the facelifted Yukon and slightly bigger Yukon XL.
The folks at Halo oto have already rendered the mid-cycle refresh, although it remains to be seen how much of this unofficial design study will carry over to the real thing. As far as the front end is concerned, Halo oto's pixel artist decided on headlamps with a similar C-like signature as the 2024 GMC Yukon.
Upon closer inspection, said headlamps are obviously inspired by GMC's first-ever production electric truck. Sierra EV styling influences further include the fog lights and turn signals. The design study's rear end is virtually identical to the 2024 GMC Yukon, save for the quad exhaust tailpipes that would better suit a supercharged V8 powerplant.
Unfortunately, General Motors won't allow GMC to borrow the LT4 small block of the Escalade-V. Looking at the bigger picture, a gas-guzzling eighter doesn't make too much sense as GM pivots to electric muscle on the skateboard-type BT1 architecture. As opposed to the unibody-specific BEV3, this platform underpins body-on-frame trucks and SUVs such as the aforementioned Sierra EV, the Hummer EV, the Silverado EV, and – of course – the Escalade IQ.

Electric versions of the Tahoe/Suburban and Yukon/Yukon XL are believed to drop by 2026, and similar to the examples above, they'll be underpinned by the BT1 architecture. In the meantime, the internal combustion-engined Yukon will continue to rely on the 5.3-liter small block, its 6.2-liter sibling, and a six-cylinder turbo diesel with 3.0 liters to its name.
The gas-fed engines didn't receive any upgrades in the 2025 model year Tahoe and Suburban, but the Duramax-branded I6 did. Torquier than the 6.2er, the diesel puts out 305 ponies at 3,750 revolutions per minute and 495 pound-feet (make that 671 Nm in the metric system) at 2,750 revolutions per minute. As for the interior, the Yukon will be treated to the 17.7-inch touchscreen of the new Tahoe and Suburban.
Paired with an 11-inch digital instrument cluster, said touchscreen is canted – but only just – toward the driver. A redesigned center console is on the menu as well, along with new decorative trim and other visual updates. When it comes to convenience features, the AutoSense Power Liftgate of the Tahoe and Suburban will carry over to the Yukon and Yukon XL.
Detroit-based General Motors will further sweeten the deal with better handling and a more refined ride thanks to an updated rear suspension design (still multi-link). Last but certainly not least, prospective customers should also look forward to steering calibrations for a superior driving experience.
