Bentley and Rolls-Royce are about to face stiff competition from Toyota, as the newly unveiled Century SUV takes a swing at the Bentayga and Cullinan. And sadly, it looks like it will be strictly limited to Japan, just like its sedan counterpart.
Described as a "chauffeur-driven vehicle," it doesn't feature the SUV suffix, as Toyota simply refers to it as the Century. The model features a very Cullinan-esque design with a boxy overall appearance. It has split lighting units at both ends, an imposing grille up front bedecked by the Phoenix logo, and a normal roofline that doesn't arch towards the rear.

It measures 5,205 mm (205 in) in length, 1,990 mm (78.3 in) in width, and 1,805 mm (71.1 in) in height. As a result, it is 136 mm (5.4 in) shorter than the Cullinan, 171 mm (6.7 in) narrower, and has 30 mm (1.2 in) less from the roof to the road. The space between the axles is 2,950 mm (116 in) compared to the Cullinan's 3,295 mm (129.7 in). Toyota says it tips the scales at 2,570 kg (5,665 lbs), and unlike the Century Sedan, which can seat five people, it has room for only four inside.

Speaking of the interior, it has a rather simple layout with a widescreen infotainment system of undisclosed size incorporated into the dashboard and a digital instrument cluster behind the steering wheel. We can see physical controls for the HVAC system below the central air vents, a large center console with a normal gear shifter, two pairs of seats, and lots of leather upholstery, which will be available in multiple hues, as well as ambient lighting, a panoramic sunroof, and additional gizmos meant to enrich the luxury feel.

Toyota says power is supplied by a 3.5-liter V6 plug-in hybrid, mated to an electric continuously variable transmission and all-wheel drive. The total system output is apparently rated at 406 horsepower (412 ps/303 kW), and the new and first-ever Century SUV can reportedly travel on zero emissions for up to 43 miles (69 km) on the local cycle. Recharging the battery takes a claimed 3.5 hours at a normal socket. A rear-wheel steering system to improve the turning radius is also on the list.

The Japanese automaker hasn't provided additional details about this ride, but it's been reported that it does not share the same construction as the Century Sedan, which is based on the Lexus LS' platform. Instead, it seems that they went for the TNGA-K, meaning it has many components in common with the Highlander, RAV4, Kluger, Camry, and many others. The model is already up for grabs in Japan, where pricing starts at 25,000,000 yen or roughly $170,000 at the current exchange rates. Only 30 units will be built each month at the Tahara factory, and as we already told you in the intro, it will likely be limited to the Land of the Rising Sun.
