Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) has recently revealed that it will hold yet another new car presentation on September 6 at 13:30 (JST), and we are betting on the Century SUV to be in attendance.
Unless you are a diehard Toyota fan, you might feel fatigued at the sight of the tidal wave of new model introductions. If we only take the US market as a significant reference, since 2023 started they unleashed at dealerships or announced the 2023 Prius Prime plug-in hybrid version of the 'Hybrid Reborn,' the 2023 Corolla Cross Hybrid to make up for the loss of the smaller C-HR, a trio of 2024MY special editions from GR (2024 GR Corolla Circuit, GR86 Trueno, GR Supra 45th Anniversary), the family-oriented 2024 Grand Highlander, an entire family of Corolla Nightshade models, plus the 2024 Tacoma and 2024 Land Cruiser superstars.

And this list is without counting on regular new model year updates; bear that in mind. Sure, diehard enthusiasts will say there's more work to be done, such as bringing out an all-new 4Runner off-road SUV to better fight the Jeep Wrangler and Ford Bronco alongside the returning 2024 Land Cruiser. However, it seems that Toyota has other sport utility plans, judging by the most recent teaser. Tucked on the company's global press portal and its official Toyota Motor Corporation YouTube account, there's a "new car presentation" announcement scheduled to go live on September 6 at 13:30 JST.

Well, that wouldn't be of utmost importance if the company didn't accompany the live YT stream with an online product page counting down the days to the same date. That's where all the rumors about the reveal of the long-rumored Toyota Century SUV are coming, as the company shared a cryptic picture of the rear of a vehicle featuring a chauffeur ready to open the rear door – with gloves on hands and a tuxedo, of course. That's an obvious hint toward the Century SUV being a limousine on stilts, just like the Rolls-Royce Cullinan, for example.

And because the official press conference is scheduled in English with Simon Humphries (Chief Branding Officer, Head of Design at Toyota) in attendance, we have very high hopes the Toyota Century SUV will turn into a global ultra-luxury SUV affair, unlike its sedan sibling which rarely goes outside its home market of Japan. According to the rumors, Toyota is preparing its most luxurious vehicle to date and may very well attempt to bypass Lexus and attack the Cullinan on its own. However, the reports are a bit conflicting toward the potential underpinnings – the mill is discussing a possible Grand Highlander derivative with the plug-in hybrid mill from the Lexus TX 550h+ sibling, which is good for 'just' 406 horsepower.

Frankly, a Grand Highlander derivative with a PHEV and around 200 ponies less than a Cullinan would surely make Toyota's Century SUV akin to a poor man's Rolls-Royce. But we are sure the Japanese automaker already thought of that, and we really expect a pleasant surprise from them on September 6.
