Unlike Toyota, which has mounted a tidal wave of novelties this year – from little Corolla Cross Hybrids to legendary 2024 Land Cruiser returns and from GR special editions to big, family-friendly three-row giants, Lexus was keen on focusing on just two major reveals for the American market.
One is the appropriately posh yet entirely adventurous Lexus GX 550, the J250 sibling of the all-new 2024 Land Cruiser (Prado and 250 in some markets), and the other is the first-ever TX. The latter is twinned with the 2024 Toyota Grand Highlander as the brand's largest three-row unibody crossover SUV, and they are both produced locally at the TMMI plant in Princeton, Indiana.

It recently landed on the configurator portal of the Japanese luxury automaker with an MSRP of $55k for the entry-level TX 350 fitted with the 2.4-liter turbo inline-four engine that's marginally more powerful (275 hp versus 266 hp) than an equivalent 2024 Toyota Grand Highlander. Customers can also order the TX 500h F Sport Performance AWD from $69k with 366 hp instead of 362 hp for the 2024 Grand Highlander Hybrid Max.

Of course, many keen observers will note the Toyota equivalent is way better priced from around $44,465 in the United States – and the performance differences are also (probably) negligible. That will change, though, when Lexus introduces the flagship TX 550h+ plug-in hybrid early next year with a hybridized 3.5-liter V6 and no less than 406 horsepower. But, even if you pony up the pricing difference, how do you justify the connection to the Grand Highlander and still stand out in any crowd?

Well, if you are willing to place your trust in the imaginative realm of digital car content creators, then at least you could do is play a little with the goodies offered by the virtual aftermarket world. For example, Nikita Chuicko, the virtual artist better known as kelsonik on social media, thinks now is the right CGI time to fuel our aftermarket Lexus TX dreams.

And we are not surprised since the pixel master recently played with the all-new Lexus GX 550 on a few occasions. Now, with his attention focused on the 2024 Lexus TX, we are getting the artist's signature 'Shadow Line' treatment on top of a dark blue CUV. Additionally, just to show that OEM proportions have gone wild and need outside help to make sense, the TX is also slightly lowered and fitted with larger, contrasting-black aftermarket alloy wheels.

Note the before and after comparison, and it's easy to see how a few subtle changes – like dropping the chrome trim elements and fitting a larger set of contrasting wheels plus lowering the ride height just a bit – can sometimes make a world of difference. So, which one do you like best, the OEM or the CGI treatment?
