The 2023 SEMA show is in full swing over in Las Vegas and, despite the absence of some prominent names from the floor of the Festival Grounds (the Stellantis brands are the first to come to mind), there is plenty to talk about.
Take Lexus, for instance. Not necessarily a go-to name for tuning and upgrades, the Japanese brand brought over to Vegas no less than six modified vehicles, meaning each generation of the GX, topped by a 2022 LX 600. The latter, an overland conversion meant for hardcore adventurers, was already discussed here on autoevolution.

We will now focus on something Lexus calls the Overtrail+. The thing started out as a 2024 GX 550 and was transformed at the hands of the Lexus Associated Accessory Product (AAP) people into a survivalist's machine.

The first thing one notices is the SUV's color scheme, a bi-tone approach in hues the likes of which Lexus has never tried before, called Earth and black. Then, the large, 33-inch tires that wrap around the 18-inch wheels come into focus, and they appear ready for anything the ground might throw at them.

The wheels come in black, and so do the over-fenders. Pair that with the brownish color of the SUV, and with the aluminum used for the skid plate, and this kind of looks like one very capable Lexus.

The thing is loaded with storage solutions that could probably keep people alive for week if need be. Aside from the usual space in the back, the LX 600 was loaded with several Pelican cargo cases and rotoPax two-gallon containers.

They are all more or less held in place by a Prinsu roof rack and window accessory panels. The same company also supplied a ladder for access to the roof. To get out of trouble you can also find a DMOS shovel and ARB recovery boards.

All of the above are useful features, but there are also some vanity elements included in the build. The rock rails on the sides come with Lexus badges, such elements are plentiful on the inside as well, and there is even an on-board tire compressor that wears the proper markings.

As far as the engine goes, no modifications have been made there. The LX 550 continues to be powered by a twin-turbocharged 3.4-liter engine that develops 349 horsepower and 479 lb.-ft. of torque. The 10-speed automatic transmission that controls it continues to be in place as well.

Lexus did not reveal the full price of the build, as it only uses it to showcase what the GX 550 can also be used for. The model in its standard configurations is for now available only for pre-order. Pricing for it and exact availability are not known.
